Through the Sakhi Collection, co-created by Jaggery in collaboration with JSW Foundation, we combine the unique texture of handwoven plastic textiles with the strength of ripstop canvas to craft premium, durable upcycled bags. These textiles begin as single-use plastics, spun on the traditional Charkha and woven on manual handlooms. Combined with rescued car seatbelts, each piece turns discarded materials into objects of skill, beauty, and purpose. Every thread tells a story of resilience, circular design, and dignified livelihoods, while preserving India’s handweaving traditions. The Sakhi Project by JSW Foundation is a socially conscious and environmentally sustainable initiative that addresses the growing crisis of sing-use plastic waste in India. They empower women by skilling them in weaving and upcycling allowing them to gain independence and financial security while utilising traditional techniques like handlooms and charkhas. These trained artisans work with various single-use plastics, such as multi-layer packaging, plastics carry bags, gift wraps, old cassette tapes and more. The vision behind this project is to create a world where waste is seen as a resource, craft is respected and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
